Hello! I’m Rita, the Linguist Teacher, and I live in Lakewood, Colorado where I teach English to adults from around the world. I am a native speaker of English, born and raised in California, and I speak a form of English typical of the western United States.
I have been teaching English to adult speakers of other languages for more than ten years. I have an M.A. in Linguistics from the University of Colorado in Boulder, and in graduate school, I discovered my special love of teaching English pronunciation.
Before I was an English teacher, I worked in natural resources management. I enjoyed my work, but hiking every day with heavy equipment on my back and working alone in isolated places stopped being so much fun. I looked for another career that was less physically difficult but still challenging, adventurous, and fun. I found what I was looking for in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
I love learning new languages, I love meeting people from different countries, and I love helping people achieve their goals. In this profession, I can do all of those things, and I know that now I really do have a dream job.
In my free time, I run, hike, play my guitar (mostly bluegrass these days), work in my garden, and study Spanish, Italian, and Armenian languages.
